International Student Ministry (ISM)
Reach internationals to reach the world!
Each year over 50,000 students and visiting scholars come to New York City for education and training. With its many prestigious universities condensed in a small area, New York City has more international students than anywhere else in the United States.
The vision of our international student ministry is to reach and train international students to share the Gospel in a reproducible way with their family, friends and unreached people groups here in New York City, in their home country, and around the world!
We have established ministries with hundreds of international students through providing social activities, English Conversation Groups, and Discovery Bible Studies at NYU and Columbia University. Our goal is that these students will become disciples of Christ that will help reach the unreached people groups in their home countries by planting simple reproducible house churches when they return home.
Why is International Student Ministry strategic?
Many international students come from countries in the 10/40 Window that are “closed countries” and difficult for missionaries to access. These students have left the comforts of home, and are more open to meeting new friends, trying new things, learning about American culture and studying the Bible. They openly share with their friends and family back home about what they are learning from the Bible. After they graduate, many of these students return home. There they will have unlimited access and an extensive network of relationships to start Discovery Bible Studies (DBS) and house churches, the way it was modeled for them here in NYC.
