Bivocational Ministry

Strategic Missions for Global Impact

You don’t have to choose between ministry and pursuing a career. God may be calling you to integrate your work and witness, reaching people for Jesus Christ as a bivocational missionary.

Many believers step into bivocational ministry—bringing the Gospel into their workplace, community, and relationships while earning a living.

God can use your skills to reach people who would never step foot inside a church on Sunday mornings.

Could you be our next cross cultural bivocational church planter

The Impact of Bivocational Ministry

Every day, Unreached People Groups move into cities across the US and around the world. Many are open to building relationships with coworkers, neighbors, or classmates. Bivocational ministers bring the Gospel to these communities through genuine connections.

More than a second job, God may be preparing you to solve the unique challenges of the least reached.

Following God’s call, your workplace and your neighborhood can become mission fields where the Gospel spreads.

Bivocational Ministry Might Be for You If:

  • You want to share the Gospel while keeping your career
  • You see your workplace as a mission field
  • You desire to plant churches among Unreached People Groups
  • You want to reduce financial pressure while serving faithfully
  • You value both stability and flexibility in ministry
  • You want to grow in evangelism, discipleship, and leadership while remaining employed

Whether you’re already a full time pastor, a ministry leader, or a layperson, God may be preparing you for bivocational mission work.

Frequently Asked Questions about Bivocational Ministry

Is Bivocational Ministry Just for People Who Can’t Go Full Time in Missions?

Not at all. We see bivocational ministry as a strategic calling in itself, not a lesser option. It allows you to integrate faith and work while reaching communities that might never enter a church.

Secular jobs aren’t a hurdle. They are an advantage.

Do I Need to Quit My Current Career to Do This?

No. Bivocational ministry fits into the career you already have. Your workplace and community can become your mission field.

How Much Time Do I Need?

We don’t have a suggested range of time every day or week. We trust each person to discern what time blocks will be sustainable for them.

What If I Don’t Feel Like I Have Enough Ministry Experience?

You don’t have to be an expert to begin. International Project will equip you with training, mentorship, and a Missions Coach to walk with you every step of the way.

How Does This Work in Practice?

You continue secular work in your field while intentionally engaging Unreached People Groups in your city.

You’ll spend a lot of time building relationships, starting spiritual conversations, making disciples, and helping new believers gather as churches.

Whether it’s doing street evangelism or facilitating a Discovery Bible Study with a spiritually interested family, you’ll be a part of one of our strategic teams.

How Much Time Do I Need to Dedicate to Being a Bivocational Ministry?

We ask that our bivocational missionaries dedicate 15 hours to ministry each week including, but not limited to:

  • Team meetings
  • Prayer
  • Training
  • Outreach

Where Does International Project Fit in?

You’ll join and be a part of a team of missionaries, both bivocational and full time workers.

We provide vision, strategy, training, and coaching so you’re not doing this alone. You’ll join a network of people who share the same passion for reaching the nations through cross cultural church planting.

In today’s world, bivocational ministry is more than practical—it’s essential.

The benefits of bivocational missions are:

  • Access to Closed Nations – Many countries restrict traditional missionaries. But professionals with legitimate jobs can enter, live, and work among the unreached.
  • Authentic Relationships -Your coworkers, clients, and community see your faith lived out daily. You earn trust and open doors for Gospel conversations.
  • Financial Sustainability -You may not need to raise full support. Your job can fund your life and ministry, freeing you to focus on your mission field.
  • Strategic Impact – In a global megacity, your vocation can be a vehicle for Kingdom work, finding spiritually hungry people.

Are you looking for a path that doesn’t require leaving your career behind?

Why Be Bivocational with International Project

God is bringing the nations to our doorstep. In global cities like New York, Dallas, and Rome, Unreached People Groups live, work, and raise families far from their homelands.

This opens an incredible opportunity for the Gospel to take root in real world communities where missionaries could not easily go.

When we engage people living outside their homelands and plant churches through them, we see the Gospel move into countries where Christian missions are illegal.

At International Project, we believe bivocational ministry is one of the most strategic ways to reach these groups. By living and working alongside them, you can:

  • Build genuine friendships that open doors for spiritual conversations
  • Model faith in everyday life, not just in church settings
  • Plant churches that multiply within immigrant communities
  • Empower new believers to carry the Gospel back to their homelands

You’ll learn effective outreach strategies to engage the least reached, introducing them to the Word of God and Christ’s salvation.

Partnering with your local local church, together we will send you to an urban center where you can still work your career.

Even without financial support from church members, God can use you to reach the Nations through their prayers.

We don’t see bivocational ministry as a backup plan — we see it as a frontline strategy.
